Deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, on an invitation of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), will the city on July 30.
The SHCBA President Rasheed A Razvi said on Friday that the deposed chief justice will inaugurate the commemorative plaque on the main door of the SHCBA hall, named the, ‘Justice Iftikhar Hall’.
The decision that the bar room be named after the deposed chief justice was taken at a meeting of the SHCBA managing committee.
Razvi said that the deposed judges of the Supreme Court and high courts of all four provinces, lawyers’ representatives of bar councils and associations will attend the function.
The SHCBA has resolved to name the SHCBA’s bar room as ‘Justice Iftikhar Hall’ to honour the struggle of the legal fraternity for the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
The SHCBA’s managing committee in its resolution had proposed that the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry be invited to grace the occasion by unveiling a commemorative plaque on the main door of the SHCBA’s Bar room in the presence of members of bar councils and associations and the judges who were sacked on November 3, 2007.
The deposed chief justice, who was made non-functional second time on November 3, had not been allowed to enter the city since then. However, he addressed the SHCBA over the phone on the occasion of the concluding session of the Supreme Court’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
