RAWALPINDI: Dozens of lawyers along with workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and members of civil society organisations took out a torch-bearing rally Sunday night to mobilise people for Monday’s rally to mark the first anniversary of the November 3 sacking of the judges and imposition of emergency rule by the then army chief, General Pervez Musharraf.
Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), Rawalpindi Bench, President Sardar Asmatullah Khan, General Secretary Malik Siddique Awan, LHCBA, Finance Secretary Syeda Feroza Rubab, Rawalpindi District Bar Association (RDBA) President Sardar Tariq Masood Khan and General Secretary Sajid Tanoli led the rally from Kutchery Chowk to Liaquat Bagh.
The rally participants shouted slogans in favour of sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for installing independent judiciary and against the government, especially Law Minister Farooq H Naik and Attorney General Sardar Latif Ahmed Khosa for opposing superior judiciary’s restoration to the November 2, 2007, position.
The lawyers’ leaders said on the occasion that restoration of all sacked judges, including chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, was a must for free and independent judiciary and struggle in this respect would continue.
