LAHORE: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) on Thursday announced to lock the courtrooms of lower courts after October 30, the day fixed as dead line for the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry including all the remaining deposed judges.
This ultimatum was given during the general house meeting of the LBA and Engineer Saleem Ullah, chief of Jamiat-e-Ulma Pakistan was also present in the meeting. Earlier, like the previous general house meeting of the LBA, a war of slogans erupted between two groups of lawyers where pro lawyer’s movement group was chanting “Chief Tere Jan Nisar Beshamar Beshamar” while the anti layers’ movement group was chanting “Jiway Jiway, Bhutto Jiway”. The chaos created a mess in the meeting as every body was shouting slogans in support of his favorites. However, Engineer Saleem Ullah criticized President Asif Ali Zardari during his speech.
Addressing the general house meeting, the LBA president said that lawyers across the country would observe November 3, 2008 as the ‘Black Day’ and the bar gave ultimatum to the government to restore all the deposed judges till Oct 30. Otherwise, he said, the lawyers would lock every courtroom of the sub-judiciary and it would not be opened till the achievement of all objectives of the movement.
The exile leadership came back into Pakistan just due to the lawyers’ efforts and if their political parties possessed any power, their leadership could not be exiled, he added. He urged the lawyers to stay united and do not try to damage the spirit of the movement. He said lawyers should be united for the restoration of deposed judges and the Constitution and rule of law. Later, he concluded the meeting to take out protest rally on The Mall.
