HYDERABAD: Chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was accorded a very warm welcome on his arrival here to attend the lawyersí convention in the premises of the Civil Court.
A large number of political workers and lawyers welcomed the deposed chief justice at the Toll Plaza of Hyderabad on the Super Highway.
Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party chief Dr Qadir Magsi was among the prominent political leaders who received the chief justice.
Activists of other political parties, including the Awami Tehreek, the STPP, the Sindh United Party and the Tehreek-e-Insaf, were also present on the occasion.
Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry was accompanied by the Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan besides other lawyers’ leaders.
Various camps were established to welcome the deposed chief justice. A good numbers of lawyers were present in the Civil Court premises from Saturday afternoon because the scheduled time of the chief justice’s arrival was 2 pm. However, he reached the Toll Plaza of Hyderabad till the filing of this report.
The deposed chief justice was on his way to the Civil Court building to address the convention organised by the District Bar Association of Hyderabad till 9:30 pm.
Strict security measures were adopted on the occasion and over 4,500 policemen were deployed to avoid any unwanted incident.
Different roads leading to the Civil Court building were also closed and policemen had also been deployed on rooftops and bomb disposal squad officials were also present.
Briefly addressing the political workers at the Wadhu Wah Chowk, Aitzaz said the rousing welcome in Hyderabad gave boost to the ongoing struggle of lawyers, hoping that the chief justice would be reinstated soon.
He said the people wanted early restoration of the chief justice because of their problems from the price hike to load-shedding.
