LAHORE: Deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said the verdict given by PCO judges has no legitimacy in the eyes of law.
“The judgments delivered by PCO judges have no legal standing. These decisions are illegal and unconstitutional. Law provides no room for these verdicts “, he said this while addressing general council meeting of Lahore Bar Association by telephone here Thursday.
He indicated Aitzaz Ahsan filed application following November, 3 Presidential steps that they could put at stake national integrity but this application was shelved.
Lauding the role of the lawyers in the movement for restoration of judiciary he described it matchless all over the world. The process to quell this movement was underway, he accused.
He alleged all the deposed judges and their families were illegally house arrested following November, 3 proclamation. A despotic ruler misused his uniform, he added. ” I can not betray the trust of nation therefore, I could not give in before a tyrant ruler. Bid was made to subdue supreme court on March, 9, he charged. This was undemocratic, dictatorial and unconstitutional step of the military ruler, he added. The lawyers movement designed for independence of judiciary has created awareness among the people, he remarked.
The people on February, 18 have rejected and given decision against November, 3, steps he underlined.
He reiterated ” I and my family members endured hardships of jail after November, 3. We are not repentant over it. We are rather proud of it”, he announced.
