Lawyers struggle won’t go in vain: CJP.

KARACHI: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has said that the moment of the success of lawyers’ movement was not far, and would definitely bear fruit. Expressing his views while addressing a tea party given by Malir Bar Association. He said that lawyers would succeed in their purpose. “Karachi had to face lots of hurdles and oppressions during the lawyers’ movement; debacles of May 12, October 18 and April 9 were the apparent examples, “he added.
He said that today was an important day for him because he was earlier invited in Malir Bar on May 12 but the people were well aware of the incident of that day. He appreciated the struggles of Malir Bar for the lawyers’ movement while expressed his deep grief over the sad debacles of Karsaz, May 12 and April 9. He termed the Malir Bar as front line contingent in the lawyers’ movement adding that these kinds of movements would not end until they attain success in their purpose.
Earlier while addressing to Malir Bar, President Supreme Court Bar Association Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan said that present government had betrayed the promises and policies of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto regarding the restoration of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
He said that it was Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary who took Suo moto action on the tragedy of October 18 and interrogated the Sindh Management for its investigation proceedings. He also took suo moto action over not registering FIR on the petition of Benazir Bhutto.
“Many people were burnt alive in the April 9 debacle, when Dr Sher Afgan was manhandled in Lahore in which agencies had played their role while lawyers had foiled the attempt of getting him burnt him by making a desperate attempt to protect him”, he added. He added that Ali Ahmed Kurd would lead the lawyers’ movement after being elected the President of Supreme Court Bar Association. He said that country was facing the economical crisis and scourge of terrorism which could only be ended by eliminating the unemployment which could only be ended by investment which was possible under a free and independent judicial system, which was impossible without restoration of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, as CJ.
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ruling leadership was not sincere in fulfilling the pledges made by party’s Shaheed Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. The President SCBA in his address to Malir Bar on Saturday said that PPP slain chairperson pledged for reinstating deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry soon after coming into power.
He said that independence of judiciary was vital for ending the crises prevailing in the country and only independent judiciary was the guarantee for investment in the country. Foreign as well as local investor due to fear of uncertainty.
