ISLAMABAD: All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai on Wednesday said the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would be reinstated in his post and urged the political parties to read sentiment of the general public.Addressing a large gathering of lawyers at the District Bar here, Achakzai said restoration of judiciary was a matter of days now. He said political parties failing to get judges restored would be rejected by the masses. “The whole process of general elections was unconstitutional, that’s why we boycotted the elections,” he said, adding unless the constitution was restored, the dream of a genuine democracy couldn’t be achieved.Achakzai said the country could not prosper unless role of army in politics was eliminated. He demanded release of all judges, lawyers and civil society members by March 9. He asked President Musharraf to step down immediately as the people had given their verdict by rejecting all those in elections who had supported the president. Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Raja Faisal Younis, Islamabad District Bar Association (IDBA) vice president, said the previous government high-ups should be held accountable for looting the national exchequer. He said the masses had given heavy mandate to PPP and PML-N for the accountability of previous government, otherwise the nation would not forgive the leadership of these partiers. Later, the lawyers held a symbolic hunger strike camp and protest rally.
