LAHORE: Protest rallies were staged in connection with the Black Flag Week by the legal fraternity to press their demands for the reinstatement of deposed judges and their release from house arrest.
First rally was taken out from residence of President Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan which terminated in Gujranwala. The second rally led by former Vice-Chairman Bar Council Ali Ahmad Kurd was held at the Faisal Chowk. The participants of the rallies chanted slogans against President Musharraf.
In his brief address to the lawyers, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said the lawyers were satisfied with the role played by political parties so far, adding he wanted to see the parliament powerful. Earlier, addressing the Feerozewala Bar he alleged that Aiwan-e-Sadr had become the hub of conspiracies after the Murree declaration by PPP and PML-N. “In fact the conspiracy is being hatched against democracy, politics, justice and people of Pakistan,” he said. “We warn President Musharraf, his advisors like Malik Qayyum and Sharifuddin Pirzada to desist from taking such steps otherwise lawyers would stage a march up to the Army House where Pervez Musharraf is settled temporarily. We will besiege it,” he said. Addressing the Lahore Bar council, Ali Ahmad Kurd said Musharraf should vacate the Army House, illegally occupied by him. “The house-arrested judges should be reinstated and President Musharraf should leave the country in the darkness of night. Otherwise we will dislodge him with the force of people and lawyers,” he said.
He hoped lawyers’ movement will soon succeed. “We will carry the deposed judges on our shoulders and they will be seated in the Supreme Court.” He said the lawyers’ movement was a revolution and it could not be disrupted. “Likewise the Murree accord between the political parties cannot be blocked,” he said.
